Wakiuru Njuguna

She is a businessperson, widely recognised for her work in supporting the creative and cultural industries in Kenya and the wider East African region.

She currently serves as an Investment Manager at HEVA Fund, a financial services company that invests in the creative industries to provide financing and support to youth- and women-led businesses.

Njuguna holds a bachelor's degree in business science, Finance Option, from the University of Cape Town and a master's degree in commerce from Strathmore University.

This year has been a significant one for Wakiuru, hitting several milestones and initiatives that reflect her growing influence and impact in the country and the region’s creative industry.

In March this year, HEVA Fund, under her leadership, announced a landmark investment of about Ksh644 million to support Kenya’s creative and cultural industries, with the funding being channelled through two financial products, ‘Ota Kopa’ for smaller loan amounts and Ota Kopa Plus’ for larger funding.

The initiative aimed to benefit over 7,000 creatives, with a deliberate focus on equity. At least 70 per cent of beneficiaries would be young women, and the programme also targeted refugees and persons with disabilities.

Njuguna's focus on helping special and vulnerable groups in society to invest has immensely helped to address barriers for women, youths and disabled people who form a significant portion of the creative workforce.
